An overview of the special collections of the Niagara University Library

Rare Book Room

The Rare Book Room is located in a secure, climate controlled room on the second floor of the Niagara University Library.

 

Rare Book Room collection primarily consists of religious books and manuscripts from the 16th through 19th centuries.

The collection contains:

  • About 25 16th-19th century Bibles in German, English, Greek, Latin and Hebrew
  • An estimated 400 religious books (Missals, Commentaries, and works of Theology) that represent the development of religious thought during the same time period. Most of these works are written in Latin.
  • Nine (9) examples of Incunabula printed before 1500 and a few earlier manuscripts.
  • A smaller portion of the collection consists of secular titles.

Browsing the Rare Book Room

You may browse the Rare Book Room collection in our library catalog.

 

You can enter the title of the Rare Book Room material you wish to search or you can leave it blank to browse the entire collection. For both options, make sure to select Rare Books in the Collection section of the search page.
