Native American History, Culture, & Heritage

This historical program discusses the colonization of North America and the founding of the United States, along with the early discrimination against Native Americans. It describes the rich ancestry and traditions of the Native American Indians, whose tribes and nations once dominated the land. Today, Native Indian heritage experiences a rebirth, with ancient languages spoken again and traditions and culture replenished. The program also explores the westward expansion of the United States during the 19th century, fueled by high birth rates and European immigration, and the relocation of Native Americans to reservations. The introduction of European livestock, particularly horses, transformed Native American culture from farming to hunting and gathering. Despite positive changes in recent decades, the program emphasizes the need to address the injustices of the past and continue supporting change in the Native American world.
