If you have any time for "fun" reading this fall, the Library recently added some new novels to its Recreational Reading Collection. Here are brief synopses and review excerpts of just a few of these books.
Adored by Tilly Bagshawe follows the career, life and loves of a female member of "Hollywood royalty" who is determined to do things her way. I reviewed this title for Library Journal and said, "This cocktail of sex, Hollywood and a dysfunctional family is simply intoxicating." A Long Way Down by Nick Hornby is about four suicidal people who meet on a London tower rooftop that's favored by jumpers. Kirkus Reviews said, "Highly moving and lively storytelling: Hornby's gifts become more apparent with each outing." In The Undomestic Goddess by Sophie Kinsella, workaholic lawyer Samantha Sweeting is thisclose to being made partner when discovers that she has made a huge, unthinkable error. She then flees the office - and life as she knew it - and starts over. Booklist called it, "Another charming winner from the delightful Kinsella." The Interruption of Everything by Terry McMillan is about a woman going through a midlife crisis and trying to deal with everything from her aging family, her dull marriage and making her dreams happen before it's too late. Publisher's Weekly said, "With her trademark ability to write thought-provoking tales inspired by the lives and loves of contemporary African-American women, McMillan offers another novel sure to resonate with readers..." These novels (and many others!) are shelved in the Recreational Reading Collection located on the first floor of the Library. Samantha Gust wrote this Monthly Book Spotlight.
