The University funds 17 summer research stipends in the amount of $5,200 each. An important aim of the program is to provide seed money for projects that can lead to external funding. Two of the 17 summer stipends are reserved for special themes:

Scholarship of Teaching Grant
This grant was established to recognize the importance of teaching at Niagara University. The focus of research should involve an area in the scholarship of teaching.

Vincentian Grant
This grant is intended to support research that will broaden our understanding of poverty--its' causes, consequences, and ways to alleviate it.
Research Support grant for 2010-2011

Deadline: January 29, 2010 by 5pm

Two types of awards are available:

  1. Funds may be used to offset costs for equipment, supplies, software, travel, student assistance, typing, printing and other expenses which are associated with the conduct of research.

  2. Funds may be used to offset costs associated with travel to conferences to present research. This money is intended to supplement, not replace, travel money available through your Dean or department

The total annual budget for Research Support Grants in 2009-10 was $40,000. The number of grants awarded each year will depend on the number of proposals received and dollar amount requested. Please be aware that while there is no cap on the amount of money faculty can request, the Research Council attempts to allocate funds in such a way that as many faculty as possible benefit from the program. While there is no set limit on the funds awarded per request for the research component, grants over the past several years have rarely exceeded $3,000.
