As the semester winds down, why not have a laugh by browsing through some of the Library's humorous books?
- Amy's Answering Machine: Messages From Mom by Amy Borkowsky
It seems that no matter how old you are, your mother never stops being motherly. Amy Borkowsky is a real-life, grown woman whose mom regularly leaves messages on her answering machine. However, she doesn't just call to say "Hi." She calls to offer unsolicited advice like "…it's very windy by the Washington Monument, so you may wanna take along a hat" and make comments like "I don't like the new message you have on your machine." This funny book is a collection of transcribed messages from Amy's mom, accented with commentary from Amy and illustrations by Marty Bucella. You can just picture Amy screening her calls.
- Dispatches From the Tenth Circle: The Best of The Onion edited by Robert Siegel
The Onion is a satirical online publication that pokes fun at journalism, newspapers and, well, just about everything. Some people find it offensive, while others think it's some of the funniest stuff they've ever read. This book is a collection of current events "articles" with headlines like "Cruise, Kidman Walk Through Lobby" and "Man Feels Brief Sense of Triumph After Completing Free-Frozen-Yogurt Punchcard." I laughed so hard I cried! If you wear mascara, make sure it's waterproof before opening this book.
- Peanuts: The Art of Charles M. Schulz edited and designed by Chip Kidd
Who is your favorite Peanuts character? Charlie Brown? Snoopy? Lucy? Linus? Schroeder? Peppermint Patty? Woodstock? Pig-Pen? They're all here in this colorful book that celebrates Charles M. Schulz and his art. There are more than 500 comic strips as well as photographs of Peanuts memorabilia, sketches and trivia.
These and other humorous books are located on the first floor of the Library in the non-fiction section of the Recreational Reading Collection.
